The accelerating transformation of global energy systems presents complex challenges and opportunities for economies, institutions, and societies. This editorial introduces the Energy Economics Review (EER) as an interdisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing rigorous and policy-relevant research at the intersection of energy economics, environmental sustainability, and climate policy. It highlights the critical need for integrated analytical frameworks that capture the dynamic interplay between energy markets, technological innovation, financial systems, and governance structures. The editorial outlines the journal’s core thematic priorities, including energy transition strategies, renewable energy finance, market design and regulation, climate economics, and energy equity. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of sustainable finance, digitalisation, and institutional capacity in shaping low-carbon development pathways. The discussion further underscores the importance of methodological rigour, encouraging contributions employing advanced econometric techniques, system modelling, and comparative policy analysis. By fostering global inclusivity and interdisciplinary dialogue, EER aims to bridge the gap between academic research and policy implementation. The editorial concludes by positioning the journal as a critical forum for generating evidence-based insights that support economically viable, environmentally sustainable, and socially equitable energy systems in both developed and developing contexts.
