Guide for Authors

The Journal of Business Governance (JBG) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, open-access journal published by SPIDER Publishing, dedicated to advancing scholarship in corporate governance, business management, and organizational strategy. Authors are encouraged to read this guide carefully before submitting their manuscripts to ensure smooth processing and high-quality publication.

1. Scope and Aims of the Journal

JBG publishes original, rigorous, and impactful research that advances understanding of corporate governance, managerial practices, and organizational development. Submissions should address contemporary challenges in corporate leadership, governance frameworks, and ethical business practices at organizational, national, or global levels.

Submissions should demonstrate:

  • Clear relevance to business governance, management, or strategy

  • Strong theoretical grounding and/or methodological rigor

  • Academic and practical contributions

  • Interdisciplinary perspectives are strongly encouraged

2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

JBG accepts the following manuscript types:

2.1 Original Research Articles

Empirical, theoretical, or methodological studies addressing business governance and management issues
Word limit: 6,000–10,000 words

2.2 Review Articles

Systematic, conceptual, or practice-focused reviews
Word limit: 7,000–9,000 words

2.3 Practice and Policy Papers

Studies with clear implications for corporate governance, organizational strategies, or management practices
Word limit: 4,000–6,000 words

Word limits include references but exclude appendices.

3. Language and Style

  • Manuscripts must be written in English.

  • Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to seek professional editing.

  • Writing should be clear, concise, and scholarly, avoiding jargon.

4. Manuscript Preparation and Formatting

4.1 File Format

  • Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)

4.2 General Formatting

  • Font: Times New Roman

  • Font size: 12 pt

  • Line spacing: 1.5

  • Margins: 1 inch (all sides)

  • Page numbers: Required

5. Structure of the Manuscript

5.1 Title Page (Submitted Separately)

Include:

  • Full manuscript title

  • Full name(s) of author(s)

  • Institutional affiliation(s)

  • ORCID iD (recommended)

  • Email of corresponding author

5.2 Main Manuscript (Anonymous)

To ensure double-blind review, do not include author-identifying information.

Recommended structure:

  • Title

  • Abstract (150–250 words)

  • Keywords (4–6)

  • Introduction

  • Literature Review and/or Theoretical Framework

  • Methodology

  • Results / Analysis

  • Discussion

  • Conclusion and Practical Implications

  • References

6. Abstract and Keywords

The abstract should clearly present:

  • Research purpose

  • Methodology

  • Key findings

  • Main contributions

Avoid citations and abbreviations in the abstract.

7. Tables, Figures, and Appendices

  • Number tables and figures consecutively, referencing them in the text

  • Place titles above tables and below figures

  • Use editable formats (not images) where possible

  • Acknowledge sources if adapted

  • Appendices should be placed after references and used sparingly

8. Referencing Style

  • JBG follows APA 7th edition referencing style

  • Authors are responsible for:

    • Accuracy of references

    • Consistency with APA guidelines

    • Ensuring all cited works appear in the reference list and vice versa

9. Ethical Standards and Research Integrity

9.1 Originality and Plagiarism

  • Manuscripts must be original and not under review elsewhere

  • Submissions may be screened for plagiarism

9.2 Authorship

  • All listed authors must contribute significantly

  • Ghost or gift authorship is not permitted

9.3 Conflicts of Interest

  • Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts

9.4 Data Transparency

  • Authors are encouraged to provide data availability statements

  • Ensure transparency and reproducibility where applicable

9.5 Use of AI Tools

  • Any use of AI for writing, analysis, or data processing must be clearly disclosed

10. Peer Review Process

  • All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers

  • Editorial decisions are based on:

    • Originality

    • Relevance to journal scope

    • Methodological rigor

    • Theoretical and practical contribution

Timeline:

  • Initial editorial decision: within 4 weeks

  • Final decision: within 8–12 weeks

11. Open Access Policy and Fees

  • JBG is a gold open-access journal

  • No submission fees

  • No publication fees until January 2028

  • From January 2028, an Article Processing Charge (APC) of USD 1,200 per article will apply

  • Articles are freely accessible worldwide immediately upon publication

12. Copyright and Licensing

  • Authors retain copyright

  • Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) Licence

  • Proper attribution is required for reuse

13. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted via SPIDER Publisher Paper Submission System: spiderpublishing.com

  • Submissions via email will not be considered

  • Ensure all metadata (author details, abstract, keywords) are correctly entered

14. Post-Acceptance

After acceptance:

  • Manuscripts undergo copyediting and formatting

  • Authors may be asked to approve final proofs

  • Each article will receive a DOI upon publication
